This is me. Or this was me. I mean, it’s still me. I’m still that person. I’m still the one who raises her hand higher than anyone else to make sure that I get called on. “Pick me! Pick me!”

Anyway. I’m a lot older now. I think I was six years old when this picture was taken. And now, some THIRTY TWO years later (you do the math), I’m only occasionally surprised to find that I am the married mother of two young boys, the oldest of whom is nearly the age that I was in this picture.
I have been a people person all my life. If it’s true that the traits that define you become more pronounced as you get older, I fear I will become one of those overly chatty old women who end up talking the ear off of every restaurant server, taking the words, “Can I take your order?” as an invitation to unload my life story.
Here, in no particular order, is a list of random information about me:
- I’m a Leo.
- I’m an only child.
- It never occurred to me to be self conscious about all these freckles on my face.
- I will always believe that the color of my hair is red, mostly because my hair color has so defined my identify up until now. So even though people now tell me it’s reddish brown or auburn, I maintain that my hair is red.
- I married a man who had the same last name as me.
- I like to bike.
- I don’t think cars are evil, but I do think that there are other ways to get around, and that it behooves us to build our communities in such a way that cars aren’t absolutely necessary for every single element of our everyday lives.
- I like talking about city planning but after fourteen years in the field I’ve come to realize that I don’t much care for the way that these conversations are being structured.
- I like to think of myself as a creative person.
- I’m a glass is half full kinda gal.
- I have little patience for perfection. I’m drawn to the flawed.
- I’m not sure what I’m going to be when I grow up now. I used to think I knew. But now I have no idea.
